From HEO: FAQ on Cancellation of the 2019-20

With respect to the COVID-19 Pandemic HEO wants to make sure that we communicate with our members.

Frequently Asked Questions as a Result of the Cancellation of the 2019-2020 Season Due to Covid-19


Please be diligent to review the FAQ’s. As more questions/answers come in we will update the document.


Is there a change, will you re-start the 2019-20 season?
Unfortunately, the 2019-20 season is cancelled.


Does this impact all hockey participants in Canada?
No, it only impacts participants who are directly registered with Hockey Canada and HEO.


What does this mean for non-sanctioned hockey?
Non-sanctioned and Private Hockey operate outside of Hockey Canada’s bylaws and regulations. If they continue to operate, they would be doing so of their own accord. These participants are not part of the Hockey Canada Insurance Program and therefore there is no insurance or liability coverage for any coach, player, trainer official or any other team staff who participates in non-sanctioned hockey. No branding of HEO including membership or Hockey Canada can be used.


What does “until further notice” mean?
The 2019-20 season is cancelled. The cancellation may extend beyond 2019-20. The Hockey Canada Board will decide when sanctioned hockey will resume in Canada.


When did the Hockey Canada Insurance end?
There is no coverage in place for any hockey related activity hosted after March 12th, 2020.


What are “Hockey Canada sanctioned activities”?
Hockey Canada/Member-sanctioned activities include all games, playoffs, try-outs, practices, POE or Team Camps, Team Activities, Learn to Play Programs and Provincial, Regional, and National Championships. This also includes all sanctioned off ice programs.


Does the cancellation of the season also mean a parent/coach can’t rent the ice for a group?
Yes, all activities must stop.


Does the cancellation of the season also mean our team can’t fundraise?
All fundraising activities are cancelled.


Does the cancellation of the season also mean no team trips/domestic or international?
Yes, there are no trips domestic or international.


Does the cancellation of the season mean no Spring Tryouts?
Yes, there are to be no Spring Tryouts.


Does the cancellation of the season mean no clinics such as coaching clinics?
Yes, there are to be no clinics such as coaching clinics.


Does the cancellation of the season mean no try Hockey Events/Jamborees?
Yes, there are no try hockey events/Jamborees.


Does the cancellation of the season mean no Coach Meetings?
No, you can have coach meetings if done electronically.


Does the cancellation of the season mean no meetings for MHA, Board of Directors, Leagues etc.?

Hockey Canada “strongly recommends” that they conduct all meetings electronically, and that they should also adhere to the advice of their provincial health authorities on public gatherings and social distancing.


What does this mean for District, Minor Hockey Association, and League AGM’s?

Hockey Canada “strongly recommends” that they conduct all meetings electronically, and that they should also adhere to the advice of their provincial health authorities on public gatherings and social distancing.
